Congratulations to the Athletes of the Day on Sunday at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China: British gymnast Megan Kealy, who won gold in Tumbling, and the Indonesian Dragon Boat Team, who claimed an impressive two gold and two silver medals on the same day.
Megan Kealy and Harjito Mugi, representing the Indonesian team, took the stage at The World Games Plaza to receive their awards. IWGA Treasurer Lukas Hinder presented each with a certificate and a Tissot watch. They also received gifts from the local organising committee.
First Tumbling Gold for Great Britain – Megan Kealy
In the Kiss & Cry zone at the Dong’an Lake Sports Park Multi-Function Gymnasium, Megan Kealy covered her face in disbelief. Sitting beside her, her coach wrapped her in a big congratulatory hug. The British gymnast had just vaulted her way to the top of the podium.
For Kealy, this victory was deeply personal. The World and European champion had previously qualified for the 2022 Games in Birmingham with strong medal hopes, but a torn Achilles tendon just before the event forced her to withdraw. Three years later, the 25-year-old made history as the first British gymnast to win a gold medal in Tumbling at The World Games.
The British Gymnastics Federation celebrated her success on Facebook, where one fan commented:
“I saw a clip of her gold-winning sequence and honestly she made it look easier than I make ambling down the street look.”
Behind that effortless-looking performance lay years of dedication—Kealy was first spotted for her discipline at just seven years old.
Four Medals in Two Hours – Dragon Boat Team Indonesia
Indonesia made a dramatic climb in the medal table on Sunday morning. Between 9 and 11 a.m., the country’s dragon boat team stormed to two golds and two silvers:
-
Gold – Open 8-seater 200m
-
Gold – 10-seater 500m
-
Silver – Open 8-seater 500m final
-
Silver – 10-seater 2000m pursuit race final
This was on top of their Saturday triumph in the Open 8-seater 2000m Pursuit Race Final at Xinglong Lake.
“We are very happy to get the medals. It is hard for us to compete in six races within two days. But we made it. We are more than satisfied with our performance,” said coach Suryadi Mahammad after the team’s remarkable run.
