Apple folds on one change to its new Camera app in latest iOS 26 beta

Apple has delighted many iOS 26 beta users while also potentially frustrating a few others by introducing a modification to the revamped Camera app.

Two beta releases ago, Apple changed the swipe direction for switching shooting modes in the redesigned Camera app on iOS 26. Rather than swiping in the opposite direction of where you want the UI to move, as if you were rotating a physical dial beneath your finger, iOS 26 beta 4 instead moved the glass slider in the direction of your finger.

After users complained, Apple added a dedicated toggle for reverting back to the classic swipe direction for mode switching in iOS 26 beta 5. These changes also appeared in the first and second public beta versions.

As of iOS 26 beta 6, however, Apple seems to have given up on the controversial decision. Today’s release includes two changes.

First, the “Classic Mode Switching” toggle found in the Camera section of the Settings app has been removed. So did Apple simply remove the rather clunky option? Nope. That’s the second change in today’s developer beta release. The swipe direction has returned to the way it has been since the dawn of time.
