As night falls in the Karakoram, a group of around 25 climbers descends from the summit of 8,611m K2, aching for some rest. Most of them are returning to Camp 3 for the night. The first climbers, with Mingma G leading the charge, summited at around 3:30 pm. Another two dozen followed closely behind him.
Summiters’ list
Imagine Nepal’s group, with Mingma G, comprised 15 people. Jangbu Sherpa (a U.S. national) and Sohail Sakhi of Pakistan used no supplementary oxygen. Client Maria Danila became the first Romanian woman to summit K2. Accompanying her were Liu Mihe, Dilixiati Ailikuti, Li Jiang, Guan Jing, and Hu Yinghong, all from China, supported by Nepalese Aangdu Sherpa, Kami Sherpa, Lakpa Sherpa, Lakpa Tamang, and Lhakpa Nuru Sherpa.
Seven Summit Treks has also published its list of summiters, with a special thank you to Imagine Nepal and the rope fixers from the other teams. “Without them, this wouldn’t have been possible,” the company wrote.
SST’s summit group includes Tao Hu, Zhang Qingliang, and Li Na of China, Eduard Kubatov of Kyrgyzstan, and Gulnur Tumbat of the U.S., supported by Pasang Tenje Sherpa, Mingma Jangbu Sherpa, Pasang Sherpa, Sona Sherpa, and Pasang Nurbu Sherpa.
Lenka Polackova and Jan Polacek, outfitted by Prakash Sherpa’s Alpinist Climber Expeditions, also summited. We are waiting for the complete summit list and details on whether they used supplementary oxygen. With her success, Polackova became the first Slovak woman to climb K2.
We have also asked Elite Exped for a list of their summiters, besides Charles Page of Canada.
