Once again, another summer workout video of Portland Trail Blazers guard Scoot Henderson has hit the feeds. But this latest workout also featured a notable attendee: new Blazers guard Jrue Holiday.
Professional trainer Chris Johnson posted the unfiltered 30-minute video to his YouTube page on Friday. It shows the new Blazers teammates practicing ball-handling and finishing. For a bulk of the 30 minutes, they work through a series of moves and countermoves that end in layups or midrange jumpers, as Johnson emphasizes footwork that keeps the players’ options open with the ball.
From the moment the Blazers agreed to trade Anfernee Simons to the Boston Celtics for Holiday back in June, there’s been a great deal of speculation about how the 35-year-old vet would fit with Henderson and vice versa. There’s also been much discussion about how Holiday should provide great mentorship to the 21-year-old Henderson during his third pro season. With both of those aspects in mind, it’s great to see the new backcourt teammates working out together in August, building that connection and chemistry early.
This is the fourth workout video Johnson has posted featuring Henderson this summer and the first featuring Holiday. The first video of Henderson, posted July 3, shows him working on pick-and-roll scoring and 3-point shooting; the second video, posted July 14, shows Scoot going through a 50-minute workout with the help of five-time NBA champion Derek Fisher (Blazer’s Edge actually missed this one); and the third video, posted Aug. 2, shows Scoot going through one-on-one battles against Cleveland Cavaliers guard Lonzo Ball and overseas pro Milan Acquaah.
