Three songs from Netflix’s “KPop Demon Hunters” soundtrack are in the top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 songs chart for the first time. Climbing to No. 10 from it’s previous No. 14 spot, “Soda Pop” from the fictional Saja Boys — performed by Andrew Choi, Neckwav, Danny Chung, Kevin Woo and samUIL Lee — adds to the success already achieved by “Your Idol” (currently No. 4) and “Golden” (No. 2).
In the last week, “Golden” by Huntr/x — comprised of trio of Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami — hit a high at No. 1, becoming the first leading single from an all-female K-pop group in the chart’s 60-plus year history. “Golden” sits at No. 2 this week with significant impact: 32.8 million streams, 11.6 million in radio impressions and 7,000.
Released in June, the film has become Netflix’s most popular original animated project of all time. In fact, “KPop Demon Hunters” is only the third soundtrack in the history of the chart to have more than three simultaneous top 10 entries behind “Saturday Night Fever” and the Whitney Houston-starring “Waiting To Exhale.”
Meanwhile, Alex Warren returns to occupy the No. 1 slot for a 10th week with a total of 23.9 million streams and 74 million radio impressions and 7,000 sold. It’s the first single to claim 10 weeks at No. 1 since Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther.”
Ravyn Lenae earns her first top five Hot 100 hit as “Love Me Not” lifts from No. 6 to No. 5 “There’s this undeniable energy to it, something infectious that grabs you right away,” Lenae told Variety of the retro-pop song. Following the success of “Love Me Not,” Lenae will hit the road on a solo tour before opening for Sabrina Carpenter.
Switching over to the contents of the Billboard 200, Morgan Wallen’s “I’m the Problem” earns an 11th week at No. 1 with 126,000 units. There were also a long list of debuts in the top 10 including records from Gunna, Machine Gun Kelly, Jonas Brothers and Japanese kawaii metal band BabyMetal.
Gunna had the highest debut on the list with “The Last Wun” arriving at No. 3 with 80,000 equivalent album units earned. Machine Gun Kelly follows at No. 4 with “Lost Americana,” marking his seventh top 10 project at 63,000 units earned. Jonas Brothers enter at No. 8 with “Greetings From Your Hometown” logging 39,000 album units.
BabyMetal — with official members Su-metal, Moametal and Momometal — scores its first top 10 album on the Billboard 200 as “Metal Forth” debuts at No. 9 with 36,000 units earned. Among the guests on the album are Spiritbox, Poppy, Slaughter to Prevail, Bloodywood, Tom Morello and more. The trio recently completed a North American tour, and are currently playing concerts in Asia. They’ll return to the U.S. for one show at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles on Nov. 1.
