Leonardo Fornaroli: My Ultimate Driver

Leonardo Fornaroli currently leads the Drivers’ Championship heading into his second home event of the season at Monza, but before we get there, we asked him to create his perfect racing driver.

The Invicta Racing talent looks to some modern icons of the sport along with a legend of the past, and notes how important remaining calm can be at the wheel.

INTELLIGENCE

“Fernando Alonso. I remember in Canada one year, Lewis Hamilton tried to get DRS on him, but Alonso saw it coming and braked as well. He was smarter. I could pick so many, but I think Fernando is a good pick.”

WET WEATHER DRIVING

“Ayrton Senna of course. Hamilton is also good in the wet. But I think Ayrton because to be quick in an older F1 car in the wet must have been very scary, but he was always brave, and his courage was impressive.”

QUALIFYING SPEED

“That’s difficult I could pick so many… I’ll go with Max Verstappen. Even if Red Bull aren’t the quickest car on a weekend, he can still get pole position.”

CORNERING SPEED

“Everyone carries a lot of speed into corners. If you look at every pole lap in history, their laps are insane. They always carry speed.”

TYRE MANAGEMENT

“Charles Leclerc. He’s very good and very smooth in the races where tyre management is very important and he achieves very good results.”

RISK TAKING

“Max Verstappen. I don’t know who else you could pick here!”

OVERTAKING ABILITY

“I want to say Max again, but I’ll pick someone else and go with Leclerc. He’s very good there so I’ll pick Charles.”

ANYTHING ELSE?

“Let me think… We haven’t said calmness. I think remaining calm in every situation, Lewis and Max are good examples. They have a clear mind in every difficult situation and always extract the best.”
