Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter in the HBO Original series based on the iconic book franchise. The young actor recently opened up about getting the chance to star in his “dream role.”
What did the new Harry Potter actor say about the role?
While promoting his new film, Grow, McLaughlin shared his excitement about playing The Boy Who Lived.
“A bit surreal to be honest, because I was always a huge Harry Potter fan when I was younger,” McLaughlin told BBC News. “And it was like the dream role, of course, so I’m thrilled to be able to be doing it.”
Last month, HBO announced that production on Harry Potter had begun at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, UK.
McLaughlin will play Potter, while Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout will portray Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, respectively.
The ensemble cast includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey as Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.
HBO’s Harry Potter has been described as a “faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter books by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling.” The show is expected to run for 10 years. There are seven books, so it’s unknown which stories will be split into multiple seasons.
Francesca Gardiner is the writer and executive producer. Mark Mylod is an executive producer and will direct multiple episodes. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman are credited as executive producers. Harry Potter is made for HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television.
Harry Potter will debut in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max.
