Meizu 22 UWB Edition leaks with surprisingly small battery and 3X zoom

Meizu is thought to launch its Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered smartphone by the end of August 2025. The latest milestone in this reported race against time is the registration of this device with China’s 3C regulator. It is supposedly joined by a special edition based on the addition of a feature also found in the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.

The Meizu 22 will almost definitely be the last premium smartphone to debut with the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor – with its next generation reportedly just around the corner in September 2025.

Nevertheless, the device has now reportedly passed 3C testing as the Meizu M852Q. It is joined by the M852V, a variant that apparently has the same ultra-wide band (UWB) technology that helps top-end iPhones connect to their AirTags, or Samsung Galaxy S25-series smartphones connect to their Galaxy SmartTags, for that matter.

Both versions of the Meizu 22 apparently have 80W wired charging for a battery now said to be no more than 5,500mAh in size.

The mildly underwhelming spec (especially compared to rivals like the 100W/6,000mAh OnePlus 13, now listed for $849.99 on Amazon) is thought to fit into a handset even more compact than the OnePlus 13s, though.

The Meizu 22 (and its “UWB Edition”) is also thought to pre-empt newer 8 Elite 2-powered smartphones with bezels of just 1.2 millimeters in depth for a flat LIPO display. It is also now believed to have a rear telephoto camera with an f/2.4 aperture and a 72mm length, for an optical zoom equivalent to 3X.

Can those specs distract from the possibly oncoming storm of next-gen Android flagships? Only time can tell.
