If you shop at Walmart with any frequency, the OnePay CashRewards Card is a great card to use because it earns 5% cash back at Walmart (if you have a Walmart+ membership). Even without a membership, you’ll earn 3% cash back at Walmart, plus the card doesn’t have an annual fee.

While it doesn’t come with many additional benefits, its rewards system is very cut-and-dried and offers an easy way for Walmart customers to earn elevated cash back. Here’s who this card might work for and where it can earn you value.

Benefits and perks

The OnePay CashRewards Card will appeal most to those who frequently shop at Walmart, both in-store and online. Since the card doesn’t charge an annual fee, it’s not shocking that the benefits aren’t exceptional. The card offers a few helpful tools like spending insights and a free credit score, but outside of that, most of the value comes when paired with a Walmart+ membership.

How to earn and redeem OnePay Rewards

Earning

All the rewards gained via the OnePay CashRewards Card are earned as OnePay Points, and you can earn these rewards in a few different ways:

  • 5% back at Walmart with a linked Walmart+ membership
  • 3% back at Walmart without a linked Walmart+ membership
  • 1.5% back everywhere else Mastercard is accepted

You can earn an unlimited amount of cash back in any of these categories without having to worry about point caps. You can access a virtual card for instant use once approved. One note, the virtual card can be added to a few mobile wallets like Google Pay and Samsung Pay, but not Apple Pay; for that, you’ll have to wait for the physical card.

Redeeming

The OnePay CashRewards Card offers limited redemption options and requires a minimum of 25 points to activate. Your OnePay Points can be redeemed in the OnePay app for a statement credit or cash back into your OnePay Cash account.

Rates and fees

The OnePay CashRewards Card doesn’t carry an annual fee and has no foreign transaction fees. There is a late or returned payment fee of up to $41, and the card offers two different APRs, based on your creditworthiness and other factors.

Foreign transaction fee

The Citi Double Cash® Card earns you a blanket 2% cash back on all your purchases, 1% when you buy and the other 1% when you pay. While the card doesn’t earn elevated rewards in any category, you’ll earn more no matter where you spend. The card comes with a welcome bonus of $200 cash back after spending $1,500 on purchases within the first six months. While a higher target compared to the OnePay CashRewards Card, you have essentially six times as long to hit your goal, and the welcome bonus is over 5X as valuable.

The Double Cash Card is a good option for those who are looking for a simple-to-use cash back card and want to earn rewards regardless of where they shop.

The Prime Visa (see rates and fees) functions very similarly to the OnePay CashRewards Card, as you can earn up to 5% back on Amazon purchases as long as you have a Prime membership; otherwise, you earn 3% back. The Prime Visa does come with better benefits, like purchase protection and travel and emergency assistance, but the main value will be determined by which retailer you use more or which membership gives you the best benefits.

If you do more of your shopping online at Amazon, the Prime card will likely be a better fit, but for happy Walmart+ members, the OnePay CashRewards Card will likely earn you more value.

The OnePay CashRewards Card is a great option for Walmart customers, especially those with a Walmart+ membership. You’ll earn up to 5% back at Walmart with a Walmart+ membership, 3% back at Walmart without a Walmart+ membership. It also offers a strong 1.5% cash back on other purchases and has no annual fee.
