‘The Studio’ and ‘The Penguin’ Win Location Managers Guild Awards

Emmy contenders “The Studio,” “1923,” and “The Penguin” were among the winners at the 12th annual Location Managers Guild International Awards, presented Saturday evening at the Eli & Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica, Calif.

The Motion Picture Awards went to “A Complete Unknown,” which was filmed throughout New Jersey,  and “Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning,” lensed in England, Norway, South Africa and Malta.

“The Studio” was shot in Los Angeles and Las Vegas; “1923” in Texas and Montana; and “The Penguin” in New York City in neighborhoods of Harlem, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, Chinatown and Yonkers. Orient Express: “Artisan of Travel,” filmed in Belmond, won the Outstanding Commercial category.

Additionally, the New Jersey Motion Picture & Television Commission for “A Complete Unknown” received the Outstanding Film Commission Award.

During the ceremony, which was hosted by actress and producer Rachael Harris, more awards were given out to spotlight international features, television and commercials in which the creative use of filming locations enhanced the tone, character and narrative of the story.

Kevin Costner was honored with the Eva Monley Award for his work on  “Dances with Wolves,” “The Bodyguard,” “Field of Dreams,” “Yellowstone” and, most recently, “Horizon: An American Saga.”

Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles was bestowed with the LMGI Humanitarian Award, recognizing the organization for its commitment to making a significant impact on the lives of children and their families by fulfilling a wish. The award was presented by Make-A-Wish representative, Don Pell and accepted by Aparna Pande, CEO of Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to veteran location manager Ilt Jones, who was honored for his work on “The Dark Knight Rises,” “Inception,” “Iron Man 3,” “Kong: Skull Island,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” “Captain Marvel,” and the “Transformers” franchise. The honor was presented by producer Ian Bryce.

Additional presenters included Keyla Monterroso Mejia (“The Studio”), Carmen Christopher (“The Bear”), Maxwell Acee Donovan (“That ’90s Show”), Kate Linder (“Young and the Restless”) and Claire Brooks (Executive Director, AFCI), among others.
