Journey to the Savage Planet as a bit of a sleeper hit back in 2020, mostly thanks to it’s bright, beautiful visuals and fun premise that was unlike much else on the market.
That game saw players tasked with exploring the immensely colourful planet ARY-26 to determine whether or not it’s suitable for human habitation in the future.
The basic gameplay loop is that you need additional resources to craft items that allow you to progress further across the planet and defend yourself against more powerful enemies.
Now, the sequel, Revenge of the Savage Planet, has arrived on Steam and it promises to deliver in all the same ways, with some nice extra additions that elevate it above even the original.
In the developers own words, here’s what the sequel holds, “In a future knocked off its axis by corporate greed and stupidity, you have been made redundant and abandoned on the far edge of space with little gear and no safety net. You must explore every nook and cranny, collect dozens of upgrades, and turn over every mysterious alien rock if you want to get revenge on your former employer and return to Earth.”
Already the premise feels a lot deeper and more compelling than Journey to the Savage Planet, adding some personal investment into the otherwise wacky game.
The most exciting feature is the dynamic co-op mode, which allows play between friends, regardless of what platform they’re playing on. Even better than that, it supports legitimate couch co-op as well, if you’re looking to recapture that feeling of being a kid with actual mates again.
The demo is totally free and available now if you want to try before you buy, with the full game on sale for £16.24/$19.49 until 25 August at a reduction of 35% from the usual price of £25.99/$29.99.
