Playtime is teaming with French distributor and producer Pan-Européenne to sell and co-produce awarding-winning Italian director Nanni Moretti’s new feature It Will Happen Tonight.
The Paris-based international sales and financing company will launch sales on the picture at the Venice Film Festival, with shooting due to commence in the first week of September.
Starring Louis Garrel and Jasmine Trinca, the romance will unfold in Rome, Turin, San Sebastian among other locations.
Moretti’s Sacher Film and Fandango Production are lead producing the film in collaboration with Rai Cinema, Pan Cinema; BTeam Prods, Irusoin and IWHT Film AIE.
“The film struck us as both utterly romantic and extremely modern. It is a movie made for a broad audience while being a Moretti film all the way. This is a typical crossover type film for which there is a great appetite around the world,” said Playtime co-CEO François Yon.
Fandango founding head Domenico Procacci added: “Producing Nanni Moretti’s cinema together with Sacher is a great honor for Fandango and I.”
“This film has a complex production structure, and alongside historical partners such as Rai Cinema and well-established ones like Playtime, we are inaugurating new collaborations with Pan-Européenne and Bteam, two important players in the international development of high profile art-house cinema.”
Co-producers are Pan-Européenne head Philippe Godeau (Pan Cinema), Alex Lafuente (BTeam Prods), Xabier Berzosa-Ander Sagardoy (Irusoin) and Ander Barinaga-Rementeria (IWHT Film AIE).
“The film is an intimate and universal love story, both profoundly human and deeply romantic. We are proud to be the French producers and distributors of the movie and have a chance to bring it to life in France,” said Godeau.
