Res Artis 2025 Conference—São Paulo – Announcements

From September 18 to 23, FAAP will host the Res Artis 2025 Conference—São Paulo, the largest and most important international gathering dedicated to artistic residencies. Held for the first time in Latin America, the event will bring together artists, curators, cultural managers, and researchers from around the world on the theme Other Springs: Blooms from the Global South.

With over 60 scheduled activities—including lectures, seminars, exhibitions, museum visits, and professional meetings—the conference invites reflection on artistic practices through decentralized and diverse perspectives. Inspired by the book Primavera para as Rosas Negras: Lélia Gonzalez em Primeira Pessoa, 2018 (Spring for the Black Roses: Lélia Gonzalez in Her Own Words), the program highlights voices and experiences from the Global South, guided by Gonzalez´ concept of Amefricanidade.

The speakers selected through the Open Call process will cover artistic residencies and experiences carried out in countries such as Angola, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Germany, Ghana, Italy, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Senegal, South Africa, Taiwan, the Netherlands, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vietnam. The full list of selected presenters also includes names such as Benedicte Alliot (France), Cristina Freire (Brazil), Edgar Calel (Guatemala), Luciara Ribeiro (Brazil), Marco Herrera (Peru), Em’kal Eyongakpa (Cameroons), and Todd Lester (USA/Brazil). All confirmed Brazilian and international speakers taking part in lectures and panels can be found in the full program at faap.br/resartis

Hosting the conference in São Paulo also marks the 20th anniversary of the Residência Artística FAAP – São Paulo, a pioneering program in Brazil and one of the country’s leading initiatives in visual arts education. In 2026, FAAP will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its Paris-based program, the Residência Artística FAAP—Paris, in partnership with the Cité Internationale des Arts. FAAP remains the only Latin American educational institution to maintain an artistic residency project with such international reach and relevance.

To celebrate, MAB FAAP will open an exhibition featuring works by artists who participated in both residency programs over the past three decades, highlighting the program’s impact on the museum’s collection and on the contemporary art scene.

FAAP Artistic Residency programs
In Brazil, FAAP stands out as a pioneer in the field of artistic residencies, running two distinguished programs: one based in São Paulo and another in Paris. Both are recognized for fostering artistic research, creation, and exchange.

The Residência Artística FAAP—São Paulo welcomes Brazilian visual artists living outside the state of São Paulo, as well as international artists. Designed to foster research and the development of artistic projects, the program offers time, space, and dedicated support within individual studios located in the historic Lutetia Building in downtown São Paulo. This year marks the program’s 20th anniversary. To celebrate the occasion, MAB FAAP will present an exhibition featuring works by the hundreds of artists who have participated over the past two decades, offering the public a contemporary renewal of the Museum’s collection.

In 2026, the Residência Artística FAAP—Paris will celebrate its 30th anniversary. Held annually in partnership with the Cité Internationale des Arts, it remains the only Latin American educational institution to carry out a project of such scope and significance, both nationally and internationally.
