Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk has taken his fight with Big Tech into court. His social media platform X and AI startup xAI filed a lawsuit Monday against Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) and OpenAI, accusing the two companies of running an anticompetitive scheme designed to block rivals in both smartphones and generative AI.
The complaint, filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, claims Apple and OpenAI have colluded to maintain dominance. Musk’s companies allege Apple deprioritized super apps and AI chatbots such as xAI’s Grok in App Store rankings, making it harder for competitors to gain traction.
OpenAI pushed back, calling the suit part of Mr. Musk’s ongoing pattern of harassment. Apple, X and xAI did not immediately comment. Musk had threatened legal action earlier this month, accusing Apple of deliberately preventing Grok from hitting #1 in the App Store.
Unless the court enjoins Apple and OpenAI’s unlawful conduct, defendants will continue to thwart competition, the filing stated, setting the stage for another high-profile legal clash in the fast-moving AI sector.
