Call of Duty fans who were anticipating Black Ops 7, the next major release, have met with the unexpected change. A significant announcement has been made by developer Treyarch in its content carry-forward policy for the upcoming Black Ops 7. The decision would directly impact the feature that allows gamers to bring the hard-earned items from the previous game to the new one. Here is all we know about the changes announced.
Treyarch alters cosmetic carry-forward in Call of Duty Black Ops 7
In a surprising move, Treyarch completely scrapped the carry-forward feature for the upcoming Black Ops 7. The system was supposed to allow gamers to import cosmetic items like the weapon blueprints and operator skins from Black Ops 6. However, with the recent announcement, these items cannot be added to the new title. The decision made means that none of the skins, weapons, or Operators unlocked/purchased from previous games will remain accessible within Black Ops 7.The rationale behind the reversal is being called a renewed focus on authenticity. Activision has stated that Black Ops 7 needs to be more authentic to the Call of Duty and the settings. They have directly addressed the fan complaints about out-of-place crossover cosmetics. It will ensure that Black Ops 7 can establish its unique identity.
The change remains specific to just Black Ops 7. All the Black Ops 6 content would remain usable in Call of Duty: Warzone, though. The only items that players can carry over to the new upcoming title are the Double XP tokens and the Zombie-mode GobbleGums.
Treyarch makes a push for immersion and authenticity
Right alongside the cosmetic shift, Treyarch has also implemented stricter security measures to combat cheating. The PC players would be required to ensure,
- TPM 2.0 and
- Secure Boot on their systems for playing Black Ops 7, starting November, 14, 2025.
The hardware-level security has been designed to make it harder for the cheat developers to operate therein. It will allow Activision to block all hacks effectively at the system level. The anti-cheat capabilities will get tested during the open beta period of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. The beta has been scheduled to begin with the early access phase starting October 2, 2025. It will be available for those who pre-order the game or are subscribers of PC Game Pass/Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The full open beta for the players will then return from October 5, 2025, and will be available till October 8, 2025. It will give everyone a chance to experience all the new changes brought in, firsthand.
