Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt had its world premiere at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, where the film’s stars walked the red carpet to celebrate their work.
Julia Roberts, Ayo Edebiri, Andrew Garfield, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Chloë Sevigny star in the psychological thriller film directed by Guadagnino and written by Nora Garrett.
The film is scheduled for release in the U.S. on October 10.

After the Hunt follows Alma (Roberts), a professor at Yale University, caught between a sexual abuse accusation involving one of her students and a colleague.
Edebiri plays Maggie, a philosophy student and Alma’s protégée, while Garfield plays Hank, Alma’s colleague who is accused of assault.
Other actors in the film include Lío Mehiel, Ariyan Kassam, Will Price, Thaddea Graham, Christine Dye, and Burgess Byrd.

During an After the Hunt press conference before its Venice Film Festival premiere, Roberts was asked about the controversies the film might raise.
“It’s such a story to me,” Roberts said. “I remember the first time I saw a film called Tender Mercies. And I just thought there was something magical about the idea that a camera just landed in a place and happened to document what was going on.”

She continued, “And that’s how I feel about this movie. We’re not making statements. We are portraying these people in this moment in time, and the camera has fallen from the sky in this particular moment and captures all this.”
