The ultimate helicopter mother faces off against the ultimate gold-digging girlfriend in The Girlfriend, a nail-biter of a miniseries based on Michelle Frances’ novel. Robin Wright plays Laura, a successful, wealthy, has-it-all type who’s weirdly overprotective of her son Daniel (Laurie Davidson). Their thisclose relationship is threatened when he gets hot and heavy with Cherry (Olivia Cooke), who’s definitely not from his side of the tracks.

When Daniel brings her home to meet the parents, let’s just say things go about as well as when Greg Focker met Jack Byrnes. Laura begins to suspect Cherry isn’t who she claims and is just after Daniel’s money — even though her husband Howard (Waleed Zuaiter) and friends tell her she’s overreacting.
Laura and Cherry’s competition for Daniel’s devotion quickly escalates into the Olympics of manipulation. The plot twists that constantly force a shift in viewers’ loyalties, set against the backdrop of ultra-posh real estate and luxe lifestyles, make this series totally binge-worthy.
