What to See At New York’s Armory Show, According to an ELLE Decor Editor

For Delhi-based Anant Art Gallery’s first year at the Armory, they presented a group of works by Bushra Waqas Khan, Probir Gupta, and Vikrant Bhise. “The presentation explores sites of resistance, personal geographies, and the fragile balance between presence and erasure,” says the gallery. Bhise’s work relies heavily on Ambedkarite thought, which emphases equality and equity, and emotional connectivity across racial and class lines. Though in no way derivate, formally, They Made Us Wear I loosely echoes Picasso’s Guernica. The painting ties together fragmented elements of nature, humanity, toil, renewal, and freedom.
