‘Fuze’ Delivers Adrenaline Rush at Toronto Film Festival

Scottish director David Mackenzie’s new heist thriller, “Fuze,” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival with a prominent cast including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James, and Sam Worthington.

The film is set in central London where the discovery of an unexploded World War II bomb on a construction site leads to a large-scale evacuation, creating an opportunity for a criminal gang to plan a bank heist amidst the ensuing chaos. Mackenzie described the film as primarily “straightforward entertainment,” a sentiment echoed by Worthington, who plays one of the robbers and highlighted the movie’s continuous pacing and 91-minute length.

Taylor-Johnson, who previously worked with Mackenzie on “Outlaw King,” stars as bomb disposal expert Will Tranter, while James portrays the gang leader Karalis, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw plays Chief Superintendent Zuzana Greenfield. Mbatha-Raw found her role liberating, having conducted thorough research and shadowed London police officers for preparation.

Taylor-Johnson and James were unable to attend the premiere but conveyed their experiences through a video message. The thriller was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience at Roy Thomson Hall. Following the premiere, Mackenzie suggested the possibility of a sequel. A definitive wider release date for “Fuze” has not yet been announced.
