EBRD lends €10 million to Kosovo’s Banka për Biznes

  • EBRD loan to Banka për Biznes to expand MSME lending in Kosovo
  • 50 per cent of the funds earmarked for green, GET-eligible investments
  • Agreement signed by EBRD Vice President Matteo Patrone during visit to Kosovo

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing a senior unsecured loan of up to €10 million to Kosovo’s Banka për Biznes (BpB) to support micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) across the country.

The project aims to promote entrepreneurship and enhance market competitiveness by increasing access to finance for privately owned MSMEs, which form the backbone of Kosovo’s economy.

In line with the EBRD’s Green Economy Transition (GET) approach, BpB has committed to allocate half of the loan proceeds to GET-eligible investments, upscaling green finance and supporting sustainable growth in the country.

The financing agreement was signed by the EBRD’s Vice President for Banking, Matteo Patrone, and BpB’s CEO, Mimoza Godanci-Aliu, during a visit by Mr Patrone to Kosovo.

Mr Patrone said: “We are pleased to deepen our partnership with Banka për Biznes through this new financing package, which will expand access to finance for small businesses across Kosovo. By allocating half of the loan to green investments, we are helping local enterprises embrace sustainability and build resilience, in line with our strategic priorities for Kosovo’s long-term development.”

Mrs Godanci-Aliu said: “This project with the EBRD reinforces BpB’s strategic commitment to strengthening Kosovo’s MSMEs and advancing the green economy transition. By providing support to help local businesses grow more competitively and sustainably, we are contributing to the broader development of Kosovo’s economy.”

BpB, an EBRD partner since 2010, serves a diverse customer base with a strong focus on MSMEs and retail clients. The EBRD has held a 10 per cent stake in BpB since 2011.

This new project is fully aligned with the EBRD’s strategic priorities in Kosovo, where the Bank remains committed to strengthening the private sector and supporting the country’s transition to a green economy.

The EBRD is one of the leading institutional investors in Kosovo, with more than €800 million invested through 126 projects.
