World Athletics Championships 2025 medal tally, Indian winners list and results

The World Athletics Championships 2025 is being held in the Japanese capital of Tokyo and will run from September 13 to 21.

This is the 20th edition of the World Athletics Championships, also dubbed Tokyo25.

India have sent a 19-member athletics contingent for the Tokyo worlds. The list features 14 men and five women, who will compete in 15 different medal events – 11 for men and four for women.

Reigning world javelin champion Neeraj Chopra headlines the team, alongside long jump ace Murali Sreeshankar, women’s javelin national record-holder Annu Rani and rising star Animesh Kujur, who is set to become the first Indian sprinter to compete at this stage.

Triple jumper Praveen Chithravel, 3000m steeplechase runner Parul Chaudhary and Abdulla Aboobacker are among the other key names in the squad. Gulveer Singh and Pooja will double up in two events each.

India’s campaign at Tokyo25 kicked off on Saturday with the 35km race walk events. Priyanka Goswami finished 24th in the women’s event while Sandeep Kumar came in 23rd in the men’s event. Ram Baboo, however, faced disqualification.

Heading into Tokyo25, Indian athletes have won three medals at the world championships – Anju Bobby George’s long jump bronze at Paris 2003, Neeraj Chopra’s javelin silver at Oregon 2022 and his historic gold at Budapest 2023.

Over 2000 athletes from more than 200 countries are vying for medals at the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo. A total of 147 medals are on offer in 49 different athletics events.
