Madueke: More to come from our attack | Interview | News

After starring in our 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest, Noni Madueke feels that our new-look attack has only just scratched the surface of what they can do to other defences this term.

The winger started alongside Ebere Eze and Viktor Gyokeres, and all three were lively throughout the game, with Noni’s corner leading to Martin Zubimendi’s excellent volley, and the other two combining to get the Swede on the scoresheet for the third time for the club.

There was a buzz of excitement every time we went forward with the England wingers displaying their pace, power and trickery against  Forest defence who struggled to keep up with them.

That was despite not having too much time to work on things at the Sobha Realty Training Centre due to the international break, and Noni feels that there is so much more to come as they continue to gel.

On how the trio managed to be so effective today, he said: “I think it’s instinctive – Ebz and I play similarly in terms of we don’t really think much – we just play what we see. In terms of the collective unit, Mikel gives us freedom to get the ball and to try and be dynamic and positive, and I think we did that today.

“We probably could have scored even more goals today, but that’s the process – we’re four games into the season. We’ve got our Champions League game on Tuesday and I think as the season goes on, you’ll see an even more clinical Arsenal side.”

Highlights: Arsenal 3-0 Nottingham Forest

There was a buzz of excitement every time Noni was on the ball, and he gave Forest’s full-backs a torrid time as he drove past them time and time again.

In the first half alone, he attempted 10 crosses – the last Arsenal player with more in the opening 45 minutes of a Premier League game was Samir Nasri against West Ham in January 2009, and was a constant threat.

That was appreciated by his new supporters who sang his name during the opening 45, and he was delighted to have impressed them so quickly into his time at the club.

“That’s what I play the game for, trying to help my team win, but also to bring joy to the people that are coming to watch,” he added. “You never know who’s watching for the first time or things like that, so that’s definitely in my mind to try and inspire the crowd a little bit.

“The love that the Emirates Stadium crowd have been showing me ever since my first game versus Villarreal in pre-season has been amazing. So, I’m so happy and God willing, it just continues.”
