Instagram Fixes A Major Story Bug for its Users Across the Globe

Instagram has confirmed that a bug was unintentionally reducing the reach of accounts that posted many Stories in a single day. The restriction, which several creators reported over the past six months, has now been resolved following internal fixes, according to Instagram head Adam Mosseri.

Users had been seeing a drop in view counts for posts when they uploaded multiple Stories in one day. In a video posted on Instagram, Mosseri acknowledged the complaints and clarified that posting several Stories would no longer limit reach. He emphasized that the issue was “unintentional behaviour” rather than a deliberate algorithm change.

Mosseri also pointed out that fixing the bug does not guarantee all followers will view every Story someone posts. Some users may still feel overwhelmed if too many Stories are published rapidly. The update simply ensures reach is not artificially capped for high Story activity.

A user on Threads under the name “brndnslvra” suggested that the problem had affected accounts globally for over six months. If accurate, this means millions of users and creators might have experienced reduced engagement or reach due to this flaw.

Instagram does not pay for views directly, but many creators depend on reach for sponsorships, brand partnerships, and affiliate marketing. When reach drops unexpectedly, those monetization opportunities may be harmed.

In recent weeks Instagram has also introduced several new features, including an iPad app and tests of a picture-in-picture mode for Reels. These changes demonstrate its effort to improve user experience and expand content format flexibility.
