The pace of decline in China’s home prices eased slightly in August as authorities rolled out more supportive measures to counter the protracted property slump.
Average home prices in the major 70 Chinese cities fell 3.0% from a year earlier in August, compared with July’s 3.4% decline, according to calculations by The Wall Street Journal based on the data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Monday.
Of the total 70 cities, 65 cities reported a year-over-year drop in home prices in August, unchanged from July.
Compared with a prior month, home prices in these cities fell 0.3% in August, the same as July, according to the official data. 57 cities reported month-on-month decline in home prices, down from 60 in July.
In the first eight months, home prices in the 70 cities declined 4.3% from the same period a year earlier, narrowing slightly from a 4.5% drop in the January to July period.
