Thousands attend Colchester’s soapbox rally

Thousands of people attended a soapbox rally in a city centre.

A total of 28teams braved Colchester’s steepest hill, North Hill, on Sunday as part of the fun-filled event.

People were encouraged to go wild with their designs, with some teams creating adaptations of The Flintstones and Wallace & Gromit.

Gareth, from Braintree, was one of thousand who enjoyed the day and he said said it was “absolutely brilliant” and was “thinking about entering the next one”.

Each team did a solo run down the straw covered hill to record a qualifying time, before entering a head-to-head knockout format, pitted competitors against a kart with the closest racing time to their own.

They then held a quarter finals, semi finals and a grand final, as well as a third-place play-off.
