Now, it’s time to review raw speed. Today’s second installment will start with a look at pole winners and NTT P1 Award qualifying.
POLE WINNERS
- Ten different drivers won NTT P1 Awards, tied with 2023 and second to only 1999, when a record 12 different drivers won at least one pole.
- Two rookies won a pole in the same season – Robert Shwartzman of PREMA Racing (photo, top) at Indianapolis and Louis Foster of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (photo, above) at Road America – for the first time since 2019, when Colton Herta and Felix Rosenqvist each earned top qualifying spots.
QUALIFYING
- A record-tying 20 drivers, matching the mark set in 2013, made at least one Firestone Fast Six appearance.
- Alex Palou (photo, above) tied Will Power’s record set in 2011 with 10 appearances in the Firestone Fast Six.
- The 109th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge featured the third-fastest field in “500” history, with an average speed of 231.207 mph. The last three Indy 500s have featured the three fastest fields – 232.184 (2023), 231.943 (2024), 231.207 (2025).
