World Athletics Championships 2025: Faith Kipyegon reigns supreme in 1500m with historic fourth world title

Faith Kipyegon has once again redefined excellence in middle-distance running.

The three-time Olympic champion clinched 1500m gold at the 2025 World Athletics Championships on Tuesday (16 September), becoming the first woman to win four world titles in any distance-running event.

The 31-year-old Kenyan, who was in complete control of the race, crossed the line in 3:52.15, ahead of her teammate Dorcus Ewoi, with Australia’s Jessica Hull taking bronze.

It was Kenya’s third gold medal in Tokyo, all won by women. Beatrice Chebet took the 10.000m on the opening day, before Peres Jepchirchir claimed the women’s marathon title the following day.

“I want to thank God that I’ve managed to defend my title for the fourth time. My dream was just to defend my title in the 1500m for the fourth time and keep making history,” Kipyegon said.

She then added: “I wanted to just keep on pushing and pushing towards the finish line. I’m so happy that my tactics worked and crossing the finish line and seeing that I won, it was a really special moment for me.

“To see my teammate being on the podium is so special because I knew the three of us we can do magic because winning a gold medal, silver, and bronze was possible because we were all three of us there.”
