Warriors’ Draymond Green has received five career selections to the All-Defensive First Team.
During the franchise’s history, the Golden State Warriors have had three players named All-Defensive First Team. One of them is Draymond Green, who is currently one of the best defenders in the NBA. Let’s highlight the performances that helped each of the three players earn the honor.
Draymond Green – Five Times (2015, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2025)
The Warriors selected Green in the second round of the 2012 Draft. He was mostly a member of their second unit during his first two seasons in the NBA. He then became a regular starter in the 2014-15 season, averaging 32 minutes across 79 games. With a new role in hand, he averaged 11.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.3 blocks to earn a selection on the All-Defensive First Team for the first time in his career. He also finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting that season.
Green has averaged at least 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks in the same season seven times during his career. He led the league in steals in 2016-17, which was also the same season that he won the Defensive Player of the Year award. In addition to his five career selections to the All-Defensive First Team, Green has been named All-Defensive Second Team four times. Heading into the 2025-26 season, Green has averaged 8.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks for his career.
Nate Thurmond – Two Times (1969, 1971)
The San Francisco Warriors selected Thurmond with the third pick in the 1963 Draft. He went on to make seven All-Star teams with the franchise and averaged at least 13.8 rebounds in all but his rookie season. There were even two seasons in which he averaged at least 21.0 rebounds per game. In 1968-69, he made the All-Defensive First Team for the first time in his career, averaging 21.5 points, 19.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.
Thurmond’s other selection to the All-Defensive First Team came in 1970-71 when he averaged 20.0 points, 13.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. When blocks first became an official stat, he averaged 2.9 of them per game in 1973-74. That would end up being his final season with the Warriors. Over 757 career regular-season games with the franchise, he put up 17.4 points and 16.9 rebounds per game.
Andre Iguodala – 2014
Iguodala began his career with the 76ers and averaged at least 1.5 steals in each of his eight seasons with the team. He then played one season for the Nuggets before joining the Warriors. The 2014-15 season was his first with Golden State, and he continued his streak by averaging 1.5 steals per game. He also averaged 9.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists. In addition to being named All-Defensive First Team, he finished fifth for the Defensive Player of the Year award. Iguodala eventually played 452 regular-season games across two stints with the Warriors. He averaged 6.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.1 steals with the franchise.
