Mohammadhadi Saravi, the Olympic Games Paris 2024 gold medallist, claimed another notable triumph on Saturday (20 September) by regaining the world title he won four years ago at the World Wrestling Championships 2025 in Zagreb, Croatia.
The Greco-Roman wrestler from the Islamist Republic of Iran, who also won bronze at Tokyo 2020, defeated Artur Sargsian 3-1 in the final of the men’s 97kg division in Croatia’s capital. The bronze medals were secured by Azerbaijan’s Murad Ahmadiyev and Kiryl Maskevich.
Defending world champion Ulvu Ganizade of Azerbaijan ensured a repeat triumph in the 72kg weight class with a 4-2 win over France’s Ibrahim Ghanem, the same opponent he defeated at last year’s championships. Abdullo Aliev of Uzbekistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Seyed Sohrabi took the bronze positions.
Aidos Sultangali turned bronze into gold by winning the men’s 60kg division. The two-time world bronze medallist from Kazakhstan defeated Uzbekistan’s Alisher Ganiev in convincing fashion 9-0 in the final to finally secure the top prize. They were joined on the podium by Ri Se Ung of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Armenia’s Hrachya Poghosyan.
Competition continues on Sunday (21 September) on the final day of the 2025 World Wrestling Championships.
