Five children among seven die as academy roof collapses in Hafizabad

HAFIZABAD: Seven persons, including five children, died when the roof of a private academy collapsed in the Sukheki area. Three people buried under the rubble were rescued in critical condition and shifted to hospital. Two brothers were also among the deceased.

According to details, Farhat Abbas’ son Imran had established an academy in his house in the Farooq Azam neighbourhood of Sukheki. On the day of the incident, while children were attending tuition classes, the roof of the room suddenly collapsed due to its deteriorated condition. As a result, Haider (son of Manzoor, 9), Rohan (7), Omar (son of Ali, 8), Abdul Rehman (5), Rehan, Imran (son of Farhat, 35), Sarwat Bibi (62), and Sahib Fatima (8) lost their lives.

Rescue 1122 teams reached the spot and, after a three-hour-long operation, recovered the bodies from the debris and shifted them to hospital.

Upon receiving information, Deputy Commissioner of Hafizabad Abdul Razaq, Assistant Commissioner of Pindi Bhattian Jawad Hussain Malik, and other officers also reached the scene. The deputy commissioner reviewed the incident and the relief activities of Rescue 1122.

On this occasion, he met the bereaved families and expressed his heartfelt sorrow and grief over the tragic loss of lives. He assured the families that the district administration stands with them in this hour of extreme grief and that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the incident from all aspects.
