Pokémon Mega Evolution Discovery Experience heads to DTLA

If you missed the August Pokémon pop-up in Anaheim, don’t worry: Here comes another chance to mix and mingle with collectors and maybe pick up some new prized possessions.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game: Mega Evolution Discovery Experience is rolling into DTLA’s Magic Box LA (1933 S. Broadway) from Friday, September 26 through Sunday, September 28, and it’s more than just another pop-up. This is a full-on immersive celebration of all things Mega Evolution.

You’ll want to carve out time between 9am and 8pm each day, because this experience is built to be savored. Entry is free, but you will need a ticket via Eventbrite. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of six per order, so don’t sleep on getting yours.

Once inside Magic Box LA, you’ll find yourself walking through larger-than-life versions of Mega Evolution Pokémon cards. Think Mega Lucario glowing in a forest, Mega Camerupt in fiery volcanic digs, snow-capped surroundings for Mega Abomasnow and more. Each Pokémon is staged in settings inspired by its own magic, so it’s not just about looking, it’s about feeling like you’ve been transported into a world built for card fans, hobbyists and casual observers alike.

There are plenty of photo ops with everything from statues and towering cards to dramatic artwork and immersive visuals. Visit each card station, collect stamps and, once you reach the end, snag a Pokémon TCG Fun Pack (while supplies last) as a bonus for your trek through Mega Evolution land.

Even cooler? You’ll get a peek at art from Mega Evolution—Phantasmal Flames, the next TCG expansion releasing later this year. If you’re already collecting or just really into the design side of these cards, those previews are a big draw.

A weekend of fandom, visuals, nostalgia and spectacle rolled into one weekend, this event cries out to be the host of a group hang. Bring friends, bring your kids, bring your inner card-collector. It’s free, it’s whimsical, it’s photo-worthy and it’s a chance to celebrate Pokémon in a way that goes beyond opening packs.
