Saab Tactical Electronics (STE) has developed a new rugged tactical router using the companyʼs TacEdge software.

Thomas Karlsson, STEʼs head of strategy and portfolio, told Janes at DSEI 2025 in September that the router had been developed to fill a perceived gap in the provision of secure communications distribution within and between armoured vehicles while maintaining critical separation between classified domains.

He said it allows different communications systems to be combined into a single architecture, sharing tactical and sensor data according to classification and on the appropriate network. The router uses Saab’s TacEdge software and is NATO Federated Mission Network (FMN)-compliant. This enables international interoperability and information sharing in a coalition environment.

Karlsson added that the router also contains a powerful central processing unit, so it can act as a server as well as a switch, with data exchanged between the two functions. He said it can support smart displays that are running small applications and by linking these establish a complete architecture. The router can either be directly hull-mounted or installed in a 19 inch rack, he added during the routerʼs showcase at DSEI 2025.

Karlsson said, “We have had some dialogue with potential customers”, but no sales have been announced.
