Alexandra Eala booked her spot in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Jingshan Tennis Open on Thursday (25 September).
The Filipina tennis talent emerged victorious in 72 minutes against Yamaguchi Mei of Japan, dominating proceedings in a 6-0, 6-3 win in the People’s Republic of China.
Eala, who is the top seed at the WTA 125 Challenger 100 event, is aiming to add a second challenger title to her résumé; earlier this month, she lifted her maiden trophy in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The 20-year-old produced a stunning opening set in Jingshan: 80 per cent of first serve points won and a triple break allowed Eala to take a ‘bagel’ 6-0 set inside half an hour.
From thereon, it was a matter of formality for the World No. 58, breaking Yamaguchi on her first service game of the second set to storm into a 4-1 lead. Though the Filipina was broken at 4-2, it did not faze her as she clinched a dominant victory.
Eala will take on Chinese home hope Lu Jiajing in the Jingshan final eight clash, which takes place on Friday (26 September).
