The Islamabad High Court has directed fresh elections in Muzaffargarh’s provincial constituency PP-269, setting aside a previous order for a vote recount.
A division bench comprising Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Justice Inam Amin Minhas suspended the May 15 ruling of Justice Saman Riffat Imtiaz, who had earlier ordered the recount.
That decision prompted PPP MPA Alamdaar Abbas to resign from the Punjab Assembly, after which the Election Commission of Pakistan declared the seat vacant.
With the IHC’s latest verdict, the matter has returned to the Election Commission, as voters in PP-269 prepare to head to the polls once again.
