Council statement on Government approval for Bath Rugby planning application | Newsroom

Bath & North East Somerset Council has been notified by the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities & Local Government that its decision to permit Bath Rugby’s planning application to build a new stadium at Bath Recreation Ground will not be called in.

The council has today (September 26) published on its website the letter from the Secretary of State, Steve Reed which declares that they are content that the application should be determined by the local planning authority.

The letter comes after the decision by the council’s Planning Committee on September 17, subject to the application not being called-in by the Secretary of State for their determination, to approve the application with additional conditions and planning obligation.

Councillor Matt McCabe, cabinet member for Built Environment, Housing and Sustainable Development, said: “I am pleased that the Secretary of State has decided not to call-in the application and that the decision of our Planning Committee has been upheld. We recognise that there are strong and differing views on the proposals, which were considered and evaluated as part of extensive public consultation about Bath Rugby’s plans.”
