Silksong fans discover a ton of sneaky changes in new patch

In a game like Hollow Knight: Silksong, where a mere pixel can ruin an entire ruin, it’s important to be properly informed. While the second major patch for the devilish Metroidvania helpfully listed some of the notable changes in a blog post, players have since discovered a handful of adjustments that aren’t noted anywhere. Some of these tweaks are minor, while others might totally change the way you approach Silksong during your next run.

The biggest change might be this one: charge attacks now generate silk. This is great news for anyone who hates going up against flying enemies, as charge attacks act as an effective measure against them — but now, using the tactic won’t leave you running around silk poor. Those who use the Hunter’s Crest will generate two pips of silk rather than one, as well. The one exception is if you’re running an Architect Crest, in which case the charge attack has actually been nerfed by about 29% according to players testing the numbers.

Another notable change Team Cherry does not mention: the Flintslate tool is better now, with charge attacks hitting about 50% stronger than before, at least if you’re packing a Hunter, Reaper, or Beast Crest. Everyone else saw a nerf while using the Flintslate tool, unfortunately.

The Clawline attack, meanwhile, is a little less strong if you’ve got the Hunter focus buff. Volt filament has been buffed to do what it’s actually supposed to do, on the other hand. Rather than simply hitting enemies a few times, now when you pop Volt Filament the damage to your Silk Skills will significantly increase.

You can see a full breakdown of the numbers here, courtesy of YouTuber Visic:

What else? The Cogwork Wheel is a little less powerful now in that you can only carry around 10 of them rather than 16.

Perhaps there are other changes, too. It’s hard to say when stuff like this isn’t in the patch notes, but kudos to all the eagle-eyed Silksong players who noticed these changes right away. In light of these changes, some of you might be tempted to swap out your Architect Crest. That’s your call, but it’s worth noting that the Crest is still pretty strong. It’s just not broken. Sorry, folks.
