DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) — The Chinese expert team of the second phase of the schistosomiasis control project in Zanzibar officially concluded a health education campaign on Saturday, bringing disease prevention knowledge into communities, schools, households, enterprises, and government agencies.

Wang Wei, head of the third batch of Chinese experts under the second phase of the project, said the initiative, which began on Sept. 10, aims to deliver accurate and practical knowledge on schistosomiasis prevention to key population groups, raise public awareness, eliminate misconceptions, and foster a healthier, disease-free environment across Zanzibar.

“We hope that through knowledge dissemination, the concept of health will take root deeply in the hearts of the Zanzibar people,” said Wang, adding that the team will continue working with local health professionals to share knowledge on schistosomiasis prevention through various formats, including video screenings, demonstrations, patient testimonials, and interactive activities.

Khamis Bilali Ali, director of the health department on Zanzibar’s Pemba Island, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese government for its long-standing support and praised the professionalism of the expert team.

He emphasized that schistosomiasis remains one of the most serious parasitic diseases affecting public health and socioeconomic development in Zanzibar.
