This will be the first India vs Pakistan final in Asia Cup history, across 17 editions and 41 years.
India, the most successful side in the competition with eight titles, arrive as defending champions after their 2023 ODI triumph. Pakistan will look to add a third crown.
This will be the third meeting between the two sides in this edition.
India won the Group A clash by seven wickets while chasing 128, with India’s T20 skipper Suryakumar Yadav anchoring the innings and Kuldeep Yadav spinning a web with 3/18.
In the Super 4 encounter, Pakistan posted 171/5 but India, fuelled by Abhishek Sharma’s blistering 74 off 39 balls, pulled off their highest-ever T20 chase against their rivals.
India’s journey to the final also included a tense Super Over win against Sri Lanka, while Pakistan booked their spot with a hard-fought 11-run victory over Bangladesh.
Abhishek has been India’s standout performer, with 309 runs in six matches at a strike rate of over 200, the highest tally by any batter in the tournament.
For Pakistan, Sahibzada Farhan leads the scoring charts with 160 runs, though at a more modest strike rate of 107.38.
With the ball, Kuldeep Yadav has been exceptional, claiming 13 wickets at an average of 9.84. Pakistan’s pace duo Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf have nine wickets each and will be central to their side’s challenge.
In the head-to-head, India dominates the T20I rivalry with 11 wins to Pakistan’s three, while one match ended in a tie. At Dubai, the record is closer at 3-2 in India’s favour.
However, history tilts towards Pakistan in the finals of multinational series and events – they lead 7-3, including their famous 180-run win in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final at The Oval.
India’s high point came in 2007, when they edged Pakistan by five runs to win the inaugural T20 World Cup final.
India do carry injury worries into the decider. Hardik Pandya bowled just one over against Sri Lanka, while Abhishek battled cramps during the clash with Bangladesh.
