This brand new Balatro-like game with 94% positive reviews is 10% off on Steam

Occasionally, we witness an indie game that takes a specific genre to new heights. Balatro was one of them; it really introduced people to the idea of a gambling game where you can adjust the parameters and tweak the multipliers to benefit your specific play style. It wasn’t the first to do it—Balatro was inspired by a game called Luck Be A Landlord that did something very similar—but it definitely thrust the genre into the forefront.

Well, we’ve now had enough time to see other indie developers refine the formula and release “Balatro-likes” of their own. One such title is CloverPit, a game where you must use a slot machine to win money and avoid being dropped into a hole. It just came out, and to celebrate, the devs have put it on a 10% discount until October 10th.

CloverPit is a brand-new title that already accrued 94% positive reviews on Steam

CloverPit was released on September 26th and was developed by Panik Arcade. The last time I saw the devs, I was playing their previous title, Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom, a fun-loving, energetic, and colorful 3D platformer. So, imagine my surprise when I discovered their second title, released a year and a half later, is a game where you gamble with a demonic slot machine to save yourself from plummeting to an untimely death. Talk about a shift in tone.

Fortunately, you’re not just left entirely to the mercy of the slot machine. In true Balatro-like fashion, you can sculpt the outcomes, tweak the multipliers, and otherwise mess with the odds to make it more likely that you’ll come away alive. Eventually, you’ll win the key to your escape…but before you leave, you know you can go for just one more round.

Here’s how Panik Arcade describes the game:

CloverPit is the demonic lovechild of Balatro and Buckshot Roulette, a rogue-lite that traps players in a hell of their own creation. Locked in a rusty cell with a slot machine and an ATM, you must pay off your debt at the end of each round, or fall to ruin – literally!

Manipulate the slot machine to earn extra coins. Turn the odds in your favor with various prizes and charms that trigger big big combos, snowballing into a dazzling lucky run. Bend the rules, break the game, and pay off your captor long enough to earn a shot at freedom.

If this sounds like fun (and 94% of CloverPit’s reviews agree with you), head over to the CloverPit Steam page and grab it while it’s still 10% off. You have until October 10th to make a decision, so give the demo a spin (you can find it on the bar on the right) and see if it’s to your liking.
