“Operation Sindoor on the games field. The outcome is the same – India wins! Congrats to our cricketers,” Modi posted on X.
This drew a sharp reaction from Pakistan. Defence minister Khawaja Asif accused the Indian PM of closing the door on dialogue to save his own political image. He said that by destroying the culture of cricket and the spirit of the game, Modi is eliminating opportunities for peace. Sources told ET that dialogue with Pakistan is not on the table in any form.
After India beat Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday by five wickets, the Indian team refused to accept the trophy from Asia Cricket Council chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chief of Pakistan’s Cricket Board and Pakistan’s interior minister.
Union home minister Amit Shah added his own punchline: “A phenomenal victory. The fierce energy of our boys blew up the rivals again. Bharat is destined to win no matter which field.” Health minister JP Nadda joined in celebrating the win. “An incredible triumph! Our team’s unstoppable spirit has once again left the competition in awe.”
