Fuji Seiran, Hot Springs with a Front-Row View of Mount Fuji / Pen ペン

Fuji Seiran, a small luxury hotel featuring just five suites, each equipped with an open-air bath and sauna overlooking Suruga Bay and Mount Fuji, held its pre-opening on May 23, 2025.

Perched on a mountainside, Fuji Seiran offers stunning views of Mount Fuji seemingly floating above Suruga Bay.

Located in the southwestern part of Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Fuji Seiran boasts one of the most enviable locations in the West Izu area. This five-room boutique hotel allows guests to claim a front-row seat to a rare triad of views: Mount Fuji, the sea, and the sunset. Each suite spans over 150 square meters and features a deck terrace facing the ocean, as well as an open-air bath and sauna offering panoramic views of both Suruga Bay and Mount Fuji.

Among the hotel’s highlights is the luxurious sauna experience, designed to be enjoyed while taking in the changing scenery of each season—a uniquely Fuji Seiran moment. The outdoor saunas on each suite’s terrace are custom-designed entirely in glass, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the breathtaking scenery of Mount Fuji seemingly floating above the ocean, framed by the grandeur of West Izu’s natural landscape.

Every suite includes a wood deck and open-air bath overlooking Mount Fuji and the bay, with an attached sauna for ultimate relaxation.

Left: From the open-air bath, guests can enjoy the extraordinary sight of Mount Fuji over the sea. Right: The sauna is crafted from durable yet beautiful hemlock, offering a natural, warm atmosphere. Spacious enough for three adults to sit comfortably, it invites indulgent use of the ‘löyly’ ritual, refreshing both body and mind.

The five suites, named ‘Souten’ (‘Blue Sky’), ‘Akeboshi’ (‘Morning Star’), ‘Tasogare’ (‘Twilight’), ‘Seimei’ (‘Clear Sky’), and ‘Amanohara’ (‘Heavenly Plain’), each showcase a distinct interior design. All rooms feature furniture by the German brand KARE, creating a calm, elegant atmosphere. The building’s architecture, including the suite designs, was crafted by Aoki Kogyo, a company deeply rooted in the West Izu region.

Guests can enjoy ever-changing vistas from any point in the hotel. From the suites themselves to the specially named Sunset Terrace, where the sky and sea shift in color with every passing moment, Fuji Seiran offers an immersive experience of nature’s temporal beauty. West Izu is often regarded as the place where Mount Fuji can be seen at its most magnificent. At Fuji Seiran, visitors can encounter fleeting, once-in-a-lifetime moments that leave lasting impressions on both memory and heart.

The ‘Tasogare’ (‘Twilight’) suite is inspired by the golden hues of the sunset over the ocean.

The ‘Seimei’ (‘Clear Sky’) suite. All rooms share the same layout, with furniture, lighting, and décor unified by the German brand KARE.

The Sunset Terrace provides complimentary alcohol, coffee, and light snacks until 9:30 pm. Enjoying the tranquil post-sunset ocean while sipping a drink makes for another layer of indulgent luxury.
