Playdead will remove Limbo and Inside from GOG. The reason might be a conflict between the studio’s founders

The GOG team announced that on July 17th, the games Limbo and Inside will be removed from the store. The official reason has not been stated, but it is speculated online that the removal could be related to the legal disputes between Playdead founders Dino Patti and Arnt Jensen, which have recently escalated to a lawsuit.

It is worth noting that disagreements between the developers arose over ten years ago. Rumor has it that the dispute was over who holds the rights to the games created at the studio. The conflict led to Patti’s departure from Playdead in the summer of 2016, but the story did not end there.

Four months ago, Patti claimed that Jensen has periodically threatened him with lawsuits. Specifically, in March 2025, Playdead’s lawyers accused him of copyright infringement and damaging the studio’s reputation after the developer posted an article on LinkedIn about the creation of Limbo and accompanied it with artwork from the game. Currently, the accusation is being reviewed in court.

However, Patti himself doubts that Playdead decided to remove the games from GOG directly because of the lawsuit. In a comment to portal 80 Level, he stated that it is more likely that they aim to change the credits, excluding his name. Previously, the studio did something similar with the Steam versions and versions for other platforms. It is quite possible that after such modifications, the games might return to GOG.

Playdead has not commented on the impending removal of Limbo and Inside from GOG.
