Artistic swimming at LA28
The countdown for the next Olympic Games has already started with 14 July representing the three-year countdown to LA28.
The mixed duet is not on the Olympic programme, but the team and duet events return for the California-hosted Games, and, as per Paris 2024, a maximum of two men can feature in the eight-person team event.
A return by Shortman next season could put her and Thorpe on the road toward more medal success in Los Angeles, albeit there’s still a long road ahead for a potential stay in a hotel in California in the American summer of 2028.
But having only lost out on gold with a late charge in the final by the People’s Republic of China pairing of twins Wang Liuyi and Wang Qianyi at the Aquatics Centre in France’s capital, the pair could well be eyeing a step up the podium for the ultimate reward.
In the meantime, as Shortman takes to Paris for a more relaxing visit, this time with her boyfriend, and now has the time to head to Italy to celebrate her partner’s graduation, Thorpe is back poolside and enjoying the new challenge.
“Off to Singapore for my 6th World Championships, and my first competing in the mixed duet!!” Thorpe posted after a training camp in Riccione, Italy with Tomlin.
“Excited to see what we can do 💪🏼🇸🇬.”
The 2025 World Aquatics Championships, the 22nd edition of the World Aquatics Championships, is being held in Singapore from 10 July to 3 August 2025.
