The royal peace talks that took place last week between Prince Harry and King Charles III’s communications teams signal that the rift might be at the beginning of the end. The Sussexes’ chief communications officer, Meredith Maines, and their PR representative in the U.K., Liam Maguire, met with the monarch’s communications secretary, Tobyn Andreae — but not everyone was thrilled about the spectacle.
Royal expert Hugo Vickers broke down the not-so-secret meetup for Page Six. “[The staff] may well have just been discussing routine things, which is more than likely, but at some point you have got to reconcile,” he said. “I don’t think we’ll see Harry returning to royal duties, but on a personal level, it will be good if he’s able to get on terms with his father.”

The trio met at the Royal Over-Seas League in London, which Vickers found “odd” because they were in full public view. The media outlet also noted that a source close to the Sussexes shared that Harry and Meghan Markle were “frustrated” that the paparazzi caught wind of the encounter. It sounds like the communications teams on both sides should have been more discreet.
The Mail on Sunday, which first reported the news of the meeting, was hopeful that the royal family feud can be worked out. They described the meeting as “the first step towards reconciliation between Harry and his father, but at least it is a step in the right direction.” Per their royal insider, “Everyone just wants to move on and move forward now. It was finally the right time for the two sides to talk.”
The Duke of Sussex was the first to openly speak about reconciling with his father during an interview with the BBC in May. Prince Harry sounded weary of the palace fight, and his father’s cancer battle was his top priority because he did “not know how much longer [his] father has.”
