Christina Applegate announced that she will open up about the “painful” moments in her life in her upcoming memoir, You With the Sad Eyes.

The memoir will offer an honest look into her life off-screen. She rose to fame as a child star on shows such as Married … With Children, and the book synopsis promises to “unveil the full story of her years in the public eye, and the painful moments the public didn’t see.”

“She writes about gravitating to the grunge that defined the ’90s and finding belonging in the legendary scene at The Viper Room; sparkling on set with fellow comedy icons in the soon to be canonized franchise Anchorman; sharing her love of dance in the Broadway revival of Sweet Charity; and returning to the Emmy stage to a standing ovation in 2024 after her diagnosis of MS,” the description adds.

In addition to diving into her career, the book will also touch on the “darker moments underpinning her outward success: her relationship with her mother who fought addiction and won, even in the wake of her father’s abandonment; the self-doubt and body dysmorphia that have dogged her from a young age; and the abuse and depression that eroded her health.”

Despite her hardships, Applegate, 53, can credit her “lifelong friends, chosen family, and her experience as a mother” for getting her through her difficult times.

Applegate, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021, said that she decided to write the memoir after being “forced to slow down.”

“I’ve had a career in TV and film since I was 3 years old, and I loved it. But with MS, all the things I thought were important shifted,” the Dead to Me actress stated in the release, per People. “For a long time, it felt impossible to find the meaning in everything I’ve been through, but for the first time in my life I’ve been able to stop and reflect.”

You With the Sad Eyes will be released by Little, Brown and Company on March 3, 2026.
