Crisp shooting performances from multiple players and a highly productive effort from their second unit helped the Hawks hold off the Grizzlies 92-88 in an NBA2K26 Summer League battle at Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas on Thursday evening.
A highly competitive first half served as the foundation for what would turn out to be a wire-to-wire battle, as the Hawks clawed their way to a 48-46 halftime lead after outscoring the Grizzlies by just a single point in each of the first two quarters. Atlanta then created some much-needed breathing room in the third quarter by forging a 27-19 edge during the period, and they’d need almost every point after Memphis enjoyed a 23-17 advantage over the final 10 minutes. The Hawks set the tone by outscoring the Grizzlies 44-38 in the paint, while Atlanta’s second unit outpaced Memphis’, 43-31.
Jack McVeigh led the Hawks with 20 points. Kobe Bufkin and rookie first-round pick Asa Newell contributed matching 14-point, two-assist tallies while pulling down six and eight rebounds, respectively. Newell added two steals and two blocks. Kobe Johnson furnished 12 points, four boards and two assists.
Rookie second-round pick Javon Small paced the Grizzlies with 17 points, complementing them with five rebounds and five assists. Cam Spencer delivered 16 points, four boards, two assists and one steal. GG Jackson posted 13 points, four rebounds and two blocks. Tyler Burton finished with 12 points and three rebounds.
