Arthur leads Brazil to win over Germany

21-year-old outside hitter Arthur Bento Buczmiejuk led Brazil to a 3-1 (21-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-21) turnaround victory over Germany with a match-high 20 points. He spiked at a 59% success rate and put away two kill blocks and an ace to top the charts. Opposite Alan Souza (two kill blocks) and Brazil’s other 21-year-old outside Lukas Bergmann (one ace) added 13 points apiece.

“I play every game with joy, but to play against Germany, the country where I have lived with my family, was a lot of fun. But we need to have our heads on the game, on representing Brazil and doing our best against the other team,” Bergmann told VBTV. “To play four games here, in Japan, was very exciting. All these fans, cheering for both teams, not just one, make the game easy. From now on, we are all focused on the next game against China.”

Outside Erik Rohrs was Germany’s leading scorer of the match with 17 points to his name, all in swings. Opposite Filip John put away another 16 points, while outside Tobias Brand also reached the double digits with 10 points.
