Under overcast conditions Ireland Women beat Zimbabwe Women by six wickets after a commanding performance with bat and ball.
Runrate
The game began with captain Gaby Lewis winning the toss and opting to bowl first which immediately bore fruit with Orla Prendergast taking a wicket in only the third ball of the innings.
Ireland then managed to maintain the pressure throughout with two run outs, three wickets for Cara Murray (3-19), two for Arlene Kelly (2-10) plus a wicket for debutant Lara McBride to go with a spectacular catch.
Zimbabwe eventually posted 117-9 which looked under par against the home batting line up. In response, Ireland managed to chase down the total in the 17th over for only the loss of four wickets.
Gaby Lewis (67 off 49) led the way with the bat during which she also became the first woman to pass 4,000 runs across formats for Ireland.
Earlier in the chase Amy Hunter also managed to pass 1,000 T20I runs for her country. But Attention now turns to the second T20I which begins on Tuesday (22 July).
