Nike is celebrating a decade of its iconic Metcon training shoe franchise with the most stable and durable cross-training shoe yet — a lighter and more runnable silhouette engineered for every aspect of athletes’ workouts.
The Nike Metcon 10 continues to set the standard for training footwear by blending durability, functionality and athlete-proven design elements, reaffirming Nike’s commitment to helping athletes train to be their best. Every detail of the new silhouette reflects what elite and everyday athletes love most about the cornerstone training shoe, which has been refined through years of feedback to offer unparalleled performance across all training disciplines.
“A decade in, we revisited the DNA of what makes Metcon the global standard in training footwear and obsessed the balanced system of strength that Metcon stands for: stability, grip, lockdown and mobility,” says Erin Gleason, Product Line Manager, Nike Training. “In designing the Metcon 10, we really streamlined the build and focused on going back to the foundation of what makes Metcon great, listening to the voices of athletes across all disciplines and intensities to create a shoe that reflects the way they train today.”
Informed and inspired by the toughest training athletes, the Metcon 10 fuses grip, stability, mobility and lockdown fit to deliver balanced performance for all strength and conditioning movements. Lighter and more runnable than previous versions, the new silhouette helps both elite and everyday athletes dominate every part of their workout.
The Metcon 10 introduces a soft yet responsive ReactX foam midsole that’s engineered to deliver a cushioned ride ideal for short sprints, box jumps and high-mobility movements — helping athletes stay comfortable and explosive throughout their workout.
A lighter, re-engineered Hyperlift plate under the heel delivers maximum stability for heavy lifts like squats, deadlifts and cleans, helping force weight down and out while adding rigidity in the heel. A wider toe box and upgraded sole further support power and control.
“The ReactX foam makes the Metcon 10 feel more responsive than before, and the updated Hyperlift plate helps the shoe feel more stable without compromising its flexibility,” says Rad Lopez, Nike Trainer. “Whether I’m strength training or doing HIIT — or both — I believe the Metcon 10 is made to perform.”
A haptic print topcoat reinforces high-wear zones such as the midfoot and toe tip, enhancing grip and durability while minimizing weight. Further, durable rubber extends from the outsole to the midsole, helping the shoe withstand abrasion from rope climbs, asphalt and turf.
A midfoot band enhances fit and delivers improved lockdown during dynamic movements, and a TPU heel clip adds stability and reduces drag against the wall during handstand push-ups.
“The key to a comprehensive training program is to squat, hinge, push, pull, carry, rotate and counter-rotate. The Metcon 10’s midfoot band gives me confidence that my ankles and feet are supported during these multidirectional movements,” says Darren Tomasso, Nike Trainer. “With the Metcon 10, I no longer need multiple shoes for a single workout. Now I can lift heavy without feeling weighed down; feel light and free when I hop, jump and bound; and move dynamically without worrying I’ll slip.”
To that end: Athlete-favorite sticky rubber in the forefoot delivers durable traction and grip for dynamic movements like cleans and walking lunges, and flex grooves extend into the midsole for smooth heel-to-toe transitions during sprints.
A breathable upper promotes airflow, keeping athletes cool and comfortable in every rep, and a new lace lockdown system minimizes distraction during high-impact movements by securing laces in an unobtrusive pocket.
All the while, strategic cut-outs in the outsole optimize forefoot flexibility and reduce the weight of the Metcon 10, giving the silhouette a decidedly lighter feel than earlier Metcon models.
“Lifting heavy demands strong mind-muscle connection. The Metcon 10 is so stable that it helps me tune out distractions and focus entirely on hitting my reps,” says Claire Prince, Nike Trainer. “The silhouette feels noticeably lighter than previous iterations. It’s evolved to maintain structural integrity without any sense of heaviness.”
The Nike Metcon 10 will be available globally in women’s and men’s sizing at nike.com and select retail locations August 4.
