Data, Insight, Development: TSG drives high-performance growth at OFC Women’s Nations Cup

Earlier this month, the Oceania Football Confederation’s (OFC) High Performance and Education team led a Technical Study Group (TSG) initiative during the OFC Women’s Nations Cup 2025 in Fiji, with matches held across Lautoka and Suva.

Bringing together expert observers, analysts, and camera operators from across the Pacific, the TSG was laser-focused on boosting team performance and advancing football development throughout the region.

From live match analysis and in-depth data collection to high-quality video capture, the group worked collaboratively to generate real-time insights. A dedicated team of analysts based in New Zealand provided statistical support remotely, helping identify trends and patterns as the action unfolded. This intel is now shaping player development pathways and enriching coach education programmes across Oceania.

Captured footage wasn’t just archived, it was actively shared with teams for scouting, opponent preparation, and post-match review. The integration of video and data into team workflows is fast becoming an essential asset in modern coaching, giving sides a tactical edge.

“My highlight from the group is their commitment and enthusiasm to want to develop, and the expert observers’ willingness to be engaged in those conversations, be challenged, and take on some learning,” said Owain Prosser, OFC Head of High Performance and Education.

Technical Study Group Lead, Maia Vink praised the process. “Now we can actually watch and do coding at the same time, which makes everything so much easier. It’s not just useful for us. I’d recommend this to all coaches, especially at the national level. It saves a lot of time and lifts the standard.”

Nazra Hussein, Regional Development Officer with the Fiji FA, echoed that sentiment:
“The highlight for me was learning the coding. It’s such a benefit to our players and coaches, we grow as a team.”

In the coming weeks, OFC will release the TSG Report for the OFC Women’s Nations Cup, providing an insight into the trends of the modern game in the Pacific region. This can be used by Member Associations, Clubs, Schools and coaches to help shape the development programmes that they provide.
